About the project
Nurgül Özkeser is an educator and author working in the traditional Turkish arts as a calligrapher, bookbinder and painter. The site had to represent not a single profession, but several fields of work that feed into each other, and a long body of accumulated work.
Starting point
The most common mistake on personal brand sites is piling everything onto one page. Here the problem was even more pronounced: art disciplines, selected works, exhibitions, published books, papers and documents — each carried a different weight and spoke to a different audience. A curator and a student don’t come to the same page for the same reason.
Our approach
- We put the work at the center. In the traditional arts, detail is everything; typography and spacing were kept calm so as not to compete with the works. A dark background was chosen to bring out the gold and ink tones of the pieces.
- We structured the body of work like an archive. Exhibitions were set up as a timeline, and books and papers as separate collections; visitors can follow either the chronology or a single discipline.
- We made each discipline its own entrance. Calligraphy, illumination, bookbinding and painting were given their own sections, so visitors coming for a single field don’t get lost.
The result
The result is a personal brand site that presents an artist’s creative output and academic work under one roof, in a calm voice that never competes with the art. The structure was designed to grow as new exhibitions and publications are added.
